I think this place is still pretty new,and they were trying to build up business for it now as previous boss of that ex massage shop didnt really do a good job. Go now while it is still quietly less known and that they moved their better service girls from the other 2 branches there to build a more stable customer base. After they were able to stabilize their regular flow of customers, service standard will surely drop and needless to say,price will surely increase.

I notice this is how Batam runs their massage service industry. Business good,price increase and service standard drops. Business no good,they have lots of promotion trying to catch the customers. Applies the same for special service pricing too.

The fact that there are so many above reminders in this thread just goes to show how conceited and arrogant SG people are. It is disappointing.

In the locals' (both chinese and non-chinese) minds. The bule is not generally welcomed in their hearts, next... is ... Sporeans. And truth be told, it took some time for them to observe and chat with me to conclude that I am "not typical Sporean" ** . And once the locals warmed up to me - they share their thoughts about Sporeans. Always often I would retort politely to say that Sporeans are genuinely ignorant, due to only experiencing one-dimensional lifestyle in SG, and as a result cause discomfort unintentionally to foreign culture. And that they (locals) would behave like that too if they were living in a country such as SG.


** "Typical Sporean" meaning :

1. Talk like a superior species, talk like "know-it-all".
2. Cocky
3. Dress in singlets and kaki shorts during their religious holidays
4. Outright stingy (pretext of going for the wallet but "too slow", do not insist to pay even after other party has paid for a few times).


Have my fair share of hosting SG friends in Batam - intro to locals and felt completely, utterly, irrevocably embarrassed by their genuinely-ignorant mannerisms and behaviour.


So please do Singapore a huge favour by reminding your friends/acquaintances to heed S.B.Y.1/NewYorker/Nono/others' advice below when heading to Batam for *whatsoever* reason :

In my 2 Batam trips ago,i brought a group of bros in this forum to my definition of a BETTER massage place and to my definition of another Not-So-Good massage place. End up most of them finds that the Not-So-Good massage place were better than my BETTER define massage place. I also bring many bros in this forum to eat the 5 popular Mee/Noodle Shops in Batam,some like Momo better,some like Instar better,some like Meximo pub one better,some prefers Bai Long. Even Bei Long has their own fans too,hehehe...

Go with the theory of One man's meat can be another man's poison,surely wont go too wrong,hehehe...

PS : Your post reminds me that Good One massage parlour do not necessary means it is definitely a Good One. NICE massage parlour may also not be necessary "Nice" for everyone..lol.

This is only partially true.

Just 5 years ago, it was enough to show my bule face to get big smiles and hand shakes everywhere I went in Batam, being it a mall or a pub or a disco.
Now, people is much more used to see bule all around, because the expat population increased significantly, and the "exotic face" effect has no power anymore. I must pass the first wall first, introduce myself, speak a while to lower barriers and proceed to the next step. Just smiling in the street is not enough anymore to get a new friend.

Even after this remark, I must say that in almost all environments I experienced a general positive bias of local people, both women and men, towards bule! I never experienced some hostile or even cold feeling. People is always kind and warm with me. This is what I like above all in Batam: the positive attitude of people (and this further motivates me to not disappoint anyone).

For what reasons are bule welcome? Certainly two above all:
1) Bule are in general not stingy, offer drinks liberally, and are known as "generous", not only with ladies but also with ojek, taxi, waiters, etc. This is in striking contrast to the typical Singaporean or Malaysian. If a price is 198rm (guess where?), the Singaporean will demand the 2rm change back, while a Western tourist will feel ashamed to accept it. ("money is the most powerful aphrodisiac", but a big door opener also in other contexts)
2) Girls like the "exotic" face and nose of bule, exactly as I literally die for the flat nose and big eyes of Indo girls.
Does this warm attitude and kindness actually hide some repulsion in their hearts? I don't believe so, at least with 90% of people I have befriended in Batam.

But there is still one important remark to make. The vast majority of bule we see in Batam is frankly not a good company: always drunk, noisy, covered by tattoo, spending hours, beer after beer, in pubs of kampung bule, dressed very lousy with cargo shorts even at night, even on a date with a girl who dressed up nicely. This well explains the initial antipathy that many locals may feel for the average bule in Batam. And that is where I focus my attention when I meet a girl: show I am not that kind of bule (I am not cheating: the only pub where I go is No Name).

In general, I'd say that in a foreign land more important than "being humble" is having RESPECT. Respect everyone, stay within limits, and everyone will respect you.

Most of us who are experienced during then including myself knows his girl that night is NOT going to be "good" becos he went to the same joint on the same day to bargain in both time and lost both time,yet still took the girl on the 3rd visit. The girl even suan him in Bahasa while we were still in the joint which he didnt understand but was later translated to him by another good friend of ours who heard it and understand the language she speaks.
