Cool Re: Malaysian Ringgit rate update

Yesterday changed for $2.57 at Parkway Parade. Was told ringgit in great demand since end of last week due to school holiday. Asked him does that affect the exchange rates? He answered somehow yes.

I think should be ChinaTown Point.

Mustafa Centre (Verdun road side) - 256.80
Mustafa Centre (Serangoon Plaza side) - 257.00

Same moneychanger in Mustafa Centre has 2 different rates at their separate windows.

Re: Malaysian Ringgit rate update

KNNCCB..... Please check your ringgits carefully.
I received a couple of counterfeit $50 notes amongst my ringgits.
I had changed S$500.00 at the exchange rate of 2.575 at Bukit Bintang Shopping Mall...... on the way back to SG I did some shopping at JB and discovered the counterfeits when the shopkeeper refused to accept them.

I could hardly tell the difference but they are able to spot the fakes. I was told the fake $50 ringgit notes is very common now. The fakes so far only affected the $50 ringgit note as the other denominations has not uncovered any fake money yet.

Btw, I had changed my money at PPC (facing the MRT entrance).

Seems that the scale of this recent counterfeit ringgit notes thing is getting quite serious. The circulation of these fake notes must be quite widespread in the system now as money changers from SG to even KL are dispensing them.

I think now better ensure that when you buy ringgit, get the money changer to run the notes through their counting machine. I'm not 100% sure but I think some of these counting machines are able to detect some of the security features in genuine notes. If its a fake, the machine will alert. Better than nothing.

Any bros here can share on to spot these counterfeit notes? It seems from the above posts that the Malaysian businesses know what to look for in these fake notes. Did the merchants or shopkeepers show you exactly how to detect?

Re: Malaysian Ringgit rate update

Thanks many Bros here for the clarification on CTP

Quite scary to hear about the counterfiet RM50 notes, normally l will count them at the same time
just try to feel the texture and also the same thickness. But telling from fake will not be easy
when you change quite alot.

I think safer to change in Singapore because if any problem easier to go back to them rather than Malysia, too far to go back

I think the counterfeits are not color fast.... I discovered my fake note will smudge when it becomes wet.

The situation here is still not so bad yet..... I understand that up north in Danok / Hatyai it is even more terrible as 1 in 3 notes are likely to be fake. Although the cops have busted a factory in Chumphon making these counterfeit money.... there are several more believed to be still in operation.

Actually these fake notes are very good.... I could hardly tell the difference between them and the real ones even after the shopkeeper picked out the fake note.
