Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
yeah bro. we all are.
just read that united has officially released owen, kuszczak and two other junior players. we will need to bring in another striker not just to replace owen but most probably berba too. i don't think berbatov will stay on for another season on the bench. rooney, wellback and chicharito will be the the main 3 strikers. i am hoping saf will give macheda his chance instead of loaning him out. united's transfer rumours have it that saf is interested to add new boy kagawa's ex-dortmund teammate and polish striker lewandowski to the team.

Rafael signs new United deal
Rafael has signed a new four-year contract with Manchester United, keeping the full-back at Old Trafford until the end of the 2015/16 season. The 21-year-old Brazilian has been with the Red Devils since 2008, when he left Fluminense with twin brother Fabio to sign for United. Rafael made 18 appearances last season in the Community Shield, Premier League, Carling Cup, FA Cup and Europa League. United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has frequently spoken about his high hopes for the brothers and is delighted to have agreed terms with Rafael. The Scot told the club's official website: "Rafael is one of the club's brightest young prospects; he has no fear of playing and has great belief in himself. "The boy has developed immensely since joining United, his energy and enthusiasm are a joy to watch. Rafael has all the attributes to become one of the best full-backs in the world and I am delighted he has signed a new contract." The right-back is equally pleased to have secured his future. "I am so happy to sign a new contract," Rafael added. "I love playing for Manchester United, there is a great team spirit here and a real desire to win. "My time here has been unbelievable; winning two league titles, a league cup and a Club World Cup has made me hungry for more trophies. I would like to thank Sir Alex for his belief in me and I would also like to thank the fans for their support."

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Giggs will captain Team GB
Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs will captain the Team GB football side at the 2012 Olympics. Giggs, one of three overage players in Stuart Pearce's 18-man squad, will be making his first appearance at a major tournament this summer after a lengthy and hugely successful club career. The highly-decorated Welshman is proud to be representing Britain at the Games and believes he may well soon have another medal to add to his collection. "Obviously it is a tremendous honour to be part of the Olympics," the 38-year-old said. "Stuart has obviously given me the captaincy, which is even better so I am really looking forward to it. "It is a unique experience and one from the start that I wanted to be part of when I got the opportunity. "I think it just got more and more exciting as the Games got nearer and then when the squads were announced I was obviously really, really proud to be involved. "We hope we can get gold. That is what the players are hoping for. "The players are winners and want to do well. You want that gold medal. "It is going to be tough because a lot of the other nations have picked good players and have got good team. "It is going to be tough, but we have a good chance." Giggs had been expected to feature for Team GB alongside former United team-mate David Beckham this summer, but the LA Galaxy midfielder was conspicuous by his absence when the squad was unveiled. "It is disappointing for David, obviously not being involved," Giggs said of his omission. "As a friend I am disappointed for him but as a player you just get on with it and just try to enjoy the experience and that is what I am trying to do." Giggs was also quick to turn attention back to football when asked about the politics surrounding Team GB. Much had been made of the reluctance of the Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish associations to give their blessing to the unified GB team. As it is, no players have been selected from Scotland or Northern Ireland, although five Welshman, including Giggs, have included in the 18-man squad. "All I have seen [is what is] in the press, really," Giggs said. "As a player and a Welshman, I just wanted to involved. "Just like the Welsh lads involved, they're Welsh but we just wanted an opportunity to play for Great Britain in an Olympics on home turf so I think it was a chance we couldn't turn down. "It was one we're excited about and if other people want to disagree with then that's their prerogative, but as a player I am excited and can't wait."

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Loftus Road life for Park
South Korea midfielder Park Ji-sung has joined QPR from Manchester United for an undisclosed fee, signing a two-year deal at Loftus Road. The 31-year-old is manager Mark Hughes' sixth summer capture, joining Ryan Nelsen, Andy Johnson, Rob Green, Samba Diakite and former Old Trafford team-mate Fabio at Loftus Road. The ambitious club also claim his signing will "put the QPR brand on a global scale", heading up their attempts to break into the Asian market. Rangers, promoted in 2011, only escaped relegation from the Premier League on the final day of last season and are determined to avoid a similar struggle next term. Park leaves United after seven years, during which time he made 203 appearances and scored 27 goals, winning four Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2008. Hughes said: "On a football level, Ji is someone I have admired from afar for years. "He wore the red shirt of Manchester United in a distinguished way and he will bring a great deal to the team, I can't wait to start working with him. "Ji is a motivated guy, he feels there is success ahead of him, he ticks every box. It's a very exciting time for QPR. "I said at the end of the season we didn't want to be in the same position next season and I stand by that, we are in a better place now." Park, who arrived in England from PSV Eindhoven in 2005, added: "I know QPR want to improve and have ambitions to reach the next level and I will try my best to help. "There were other offers but nothing compared to QPR."

yup. good for park as he needs more playing time and he will get it at qpr. he may even captain them as the reports are saying so far. he's definitely a better captain than barton. still can't forget that he got himself sent off in the game agst city at the end of last season. good for united as we got him for only 4m and more importantly, it allows younger players to move up.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Captain Giggs gutted for Fletcher
Ryan Giggs believes Darren Fletcher would have been in contention for a Team GB spot had it not been for the illness which is hampering him. Manchester United midfielder Fletcher, suffering with a chronic bowel condition, was forced to take an indefinite break from football in December and is yet to return to training at Old Trafford. An enforced spell out of action means he was unable to stake a claim for a place in Stuart Pearce's 18-man squad for the 2012 Olympics. No Scots have made the British squad, but Giggs feels Fletcher would have been a serious contender for an over-age spot had he been fully fit. The Welsh midfielder, who hopes his club colleague will soon be back in action, said: "Fletch is concentrating on trying to get fit for United so I don't think he would have been thinking too much about missing out on this. "Hopefully he will just start training and playing again because he is a talent and a really important player for both United and Scotland. "But I'm sure if he had been playing regularly then Stuart would have had a decision to make because he definitely would have been in the reckoning." Giggs, who has been named Team GB skipper, is gearing up for his first outing at a major international tournament and admits claiming a gold medal on home soil would rank alongside anything he has achieved so far in his glittering club career. "I don't like to prioritise medals because every single one means something special," he said. "But, of course, this would be different because you never thought you'd be competing in an Olympics. "To win a gold medal would be special."

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Soccernet.com
By Harry Harris, Football Correspondent ESPN understands that Manchester United's bid for Arsenal striker Robin van Persie may have been as low as £12.5 million. • Juve chief hints RVP may cost too much • RVP seeks swift resolution • Transfer Blog: On the Move Van Persie, 28, revealed this month that he does not intend to sign a new contract with Arsenal, with his current deal due to expire in the summer of 2013. The Netherlands international said his ambitions were not matched by the Gunners, and interest in signing him has subsequently increased. The BBC had suggested on Friday that Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus have made offers in the region of £15 million for Van Persie, although Arsenal want a fee nearer £30 million. Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson later confirmed that the Red Devils had, indeed, made an offer for the Dutch striker. Speaking to MUTV, Ferguson said: "Obviously Arsenal have given out the fact that we've made a bid for him. We try to keep business as close as possible to us until the moment we conclude a deal. There's no point talking about something that might not happen. "There are other clubs interested in the player. We've shown an interest and that's where we're at at the moment." Arsene Wenger is thought to be furious that he is being backed into a corner by the club captain and if the Gunners choose to make a stand, they will demand at least double the price United may have so far offered. Speculation is rife that the clubs are bidding low in the knowledge that Van Persie is making his future at Emirates Stadium untenable. Manutd.com 20/07/2012 17:35, Report by A Marshall & N Coppack Boss confirms van Persie bid Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed making a bid for Arsenal captain Robin van Persie. The Gunners' skipper has refused to sign a new contract at the Emirates Stadium and is also said to be interesting Juventus and Manchester City. There's no point talking about something that might not happen. "There are other clubs interested in the player. We've shown an interest and that's where we're at at the moment."
