Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
Now Terry will go ballistic! Torres is class, that's all I can say
Carvalho best of bad bunch - Torres Liverpool striker Fernando Torres believes Chelsea's Ricardo Carvalho is the best of a bad bunch among defenders in the Premier League. Torres insists defenders' reliance on brawn over brain has made his life in England easier than expected. The 24-year-old found the net 24 times in the top flight in 2007-08 - the most successful debut season ever by foreigner in goalscoring terms. And he insists he met his toughest opponent in Chelsea's Portuguese centre-half, who he rates above Carvalho's Blues team-mate and England captaincy candidate John Terry. "Terry is captain so gets a much higher profile. But he's only secondary to Carvalho," Torres told The Sun. "Ricky is superb. He has every quality that is needed." Torres added: "The central defenders (in the Premier League) are usually big, strong, aggressive lads. "I guess it is probably because of these characteristics that the majority think they can solve problems by getting tough with me. "But the truth is most of them lack defensive positioning as a result of their reliance on strength and aggression and leave so much space for you to take advantage of." |

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
Nice one, Rafa Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has picked up an honourary degree in his old stomping ground of Valencia. And just like some UK universities, he was made to wear a daft outfit for the ceremony. Benitez was granted with an Honoris Causa Degree by Jesus Rodriguez Marin, Miguel Hernandez University's vice-chancellor in Elche, eastern Spain. And the 48-year-old former Valencia and Tenerife head coach looked pleased as punch at his award. |

By the way, Liverpool will launch the NEW AWAY Jersey on the 17th July. So for brothers who are looking to buy the current white away jersey, please note that it will not be the away jersey for next year. That white away jersey may be going cheaper now to clear stocks. Don't buy already then realise it's going to be outdated soon. |

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
From yesterday's issue of Liverpool Times daily :-
Who? - John Arne Riise Where is he? - Liverpool Who is he linked with? - AS Roma AS Roma head coach Luciano Spalletti has confirmed that he is hoping to sign Liverpool's Norwegian wing-back John Arne Riise this summer. The 27-year-old has spent seven years at Anfield, but is expected to leave in the near future, with a host of clubs across Europe interested in the former AS Monaco man. Spalletti told his club's official website: "A player like Riise can give a different kind of readiness. Considering the challenges that await us in the coming season, Riise has the qualities that we are looking for. However, we have to look for other players as well and not make any mistakes in forming the new squad, such as losing the balance of the side. It is fundamental that we have a group based on the right attitude of friendship and professionalism. All we need is to add a little extra quality to our ranks, so that we can compete in all competitions again." Riise has made just short of 350 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions to date, scoring 33 goals. Who? - David Villa Where is he? - Valencia Who is he linked with? - Liverpool Valencia director Juan Sanchez has reacted calmly to Los Che striker David Villa starting Euro 2008 with an impressive hat-trick in Spain's 4-1 thrashing of Russia. The 27-year-old is widely expected to leave the Mestalla this summer, with Arsenal and Real Madrid believed to be heading the chase for Villa's signature. However, Liverpool has surprised everyone with an offer of 18 million for the ideal strike partner to complement the "El Nino". Who? - Gareth Barry Where is he? - Aston Villa Who is he linked with? - Liverpool Aston Villa have confirmed that they have rejected a slightly improved offer from Liverpool for England midfielder Gareth Barry. The Reds are reported to have bid around 15 million for the 27-year-old Villa captain, but Barry's current employers are holding out for a much higher fee. A Villa spokesman told the club's official website: "The offer was a slight improvement on a previous bid, but our position on the issue remains unchanged and Liverpool have been informed." Villa boss Martin O'Neill had previously reacted angrily to the Reds' first approach for the services of Barry, slamming Anfield counterpart Rafa Benitez for his public statements of intent. However, Rick Parry has released a statement: "The latest offer is final and there will be no further bids. We'll just have to look elsewhere for another player". |

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
continued from previous post.....
From yesterday's issue of Liverpool Times daily :- Who? - Phillip Lahm Where is he? - Bayern Munich Who is he linked with? - Liverpool Liverpool's manager Rafael Benitez has confirmed they are hoping to sign the brilliant 25 year old left back from Bayern Munich. A bid of 15 million + player exchange was tabled and he is confident the left back will come to Anfield. He told reporters: "With Riise leaving us for Roma, Phillip will be an excellent replacement for the position". Who? - Xabi Alonso Where is he? - Liverpool Who is he linked with? - Juventus Liverpool's spanish matador Xabi Alonso will be turning out for Juventus next season after an offer of 14 million was accepted. While reluctant to let one of their talented players leave, the offer was too good to pass for a player whose form has stagnated after a promising start to his Anfield career. Apparently he has never fully recovered from the broken ankle he suffered last year and the money from this transfer will go towards Liverpool acquiring their transfer targets for the coming season. Looks like not a bad deal for thr Reds. OUT :- John Arne Riise, Xabi Alonso IN :- David Villa, Philip Lahm, Degen, Dossena. Hope there is more to come |
