I'm planning to go on a trip to SH next month.( Ard 27th or 28th)
Since i'm alone,any bros can advise me the happening places in the city?
Eg: Spa ,pick up babe joint ,etc
I 'm planning to stay at THE LONGEMONT HOTEL or WESTIN.
(you might have a better recommendation)

It's all in Hongqiao since there is the highest density of those clubs

Gd info bro locallaowai! I was once at 仙霞路 about 2 years ago on a saturday evening (near ktv golden timing about 5.30pm) and I saw many hot girls walking around.

But at that time i did not know that there was a high concentration of clubs in hongqiao area, and the girls were quite solid could pass off as those part time models so I thought there was some minor modelling show or something there at that time... now i see... bro sgpshanghai / shengge u 2 bros should inform me 1st lah

Keef.. First of all, you got to state what is your preference and follow this thread.. When some brothers post something that might catch your interest, give him a private message to ask whether you can join. For example, if your preference is sauna, i might not be the right person.. I am more of clubbing and KTV guy.

Thanks for all your help in recommending places in Shanghai. Also thanks for the invites but unfortunately we were ‘taken’ to places on the first nites and were confident enough to visit other places on our own after that.

Just a few notes and thoughts ;.


I find Shanghainese are friendly and willing to help but you have to make the first move. They also seem rude as they talk loudly and will shove you out of the way if you are blocking them but its just their way. They also like to jump queues ; it’s the survival of the fittest here! Traffic is crazy and the drivers horn nonstop! Shanghainese are also color blind coz they dun seem to stop when they reach a traffic light! Again it’s the survive of the fittest and as long as you dun get knocked down by oncoming traffic , anything goes! They ever hire ‘people blockers’ at major traffic junctions to ensure everyone obeys the lights!

The MRT was very convenient and I was told about 1 million people use the system daily! However the spider web and maze of the system was too much for me and I let my friend guide and I just followed like a puppy.

The World Expo was crazy and the more popular pavilions have queues of up to 4-6 hours! 16th Oct saw a visit of 1.1 million people and 17th Oct had similar numbers! We visited the non popular ones and still managed only 4-5 for the 10 hours we were there! If anyone planning to go these last few weeks , I recommend you skip the pavilions and head straight to the restaurant’s attached to their respective pavilions. As you pay for the meal , there are no lines there and you eat or drink the country’s food. Order the appetizers and wine so you can have as much as your stomach can tahan. I had a beef-something in the Argentina pavilion and it was like beef kerma in a curry puff! However the sausage was nice. Haha , you win some , you lose some!

Many people including me thinks of foreigners when thinking about tourist but the domestic tourist market in China huge and big is enough to sustain themselves and China does not need anyone from outside to keep the numbers up.

We stayed on Yunnan Nan Lu. Budget hotels cost 200-500RMB and are the standard of our Hotel81. Many rooms available and you can usually walk in for a room without any reservation BUT ……. unfortunately , it is World Expo time and rooms are all full especially for the weekend. Things should go back to normal after the Expo ends. Shanghainese are open and friendly by nature but many have told me they need a break from tourist ; foreign or domestic!

Many resturants and food carts available here even 3-4am. Very safe as well as one can see even women walking home alone. Many muslims resturants here as well and my favorite was the 10RMB for 3 sticks of BBQ lamb ; about the 3x the size of our satay. You can see many people buying up to 10 sticks per persom for appetizers before a meal! Muttons and beef seems to be on the menu for many places and in hotpots and hot soup ; pretty spicy maybe in preparation for the coming winter season. In addition to that , you have your Siow Long Paus , noodles , fried rices etc all very cheap. You can survive on less than 30RMB a day on food if you are a simple eater. I’m a fat bastard so I make sure I have a good meal everytime! 

Massages are all over the place but we went to the mostly clean ones. We went to a spa and had a two hour massage ; one hour foot and one hour body costing only 200RMB. The girls also do not expect tips and walked away after thanking us when we were putting on our shoes. The shop houses massages cost even less , about 30-50RMB per hour.

Now ……… nite life. We didn’t have time to hit the KTVs as we though it was similar to the Singapore style and we’ve seen enough of that.

For a tamer Clark Quay type , you can find XinTianDi and the French Concession very simlar with many western and local resturants and bars. We saw many people or different type ; Singaporeans/HK/Taiwan uncles with their ‘dates’ , the Lau Weis (angmos) , the middles class Shanghainess enjoying a nite out as well as the domestic Chinese tours groups. Our timing was excellent as outdoor sitting was perfect in this weather; about 20C but you’ll need a jacket when the wind blows.

My friend brought us down to HuaShan Lu ; along a row of bars opposite the Hilton Hotel. The bars here resemble the Filipino bars at Tanjong Pagar. The girls will ask you for drinks usually 50RMB. Similar system where the girls will say they don’t like china men and you are so handsome to get you to pay for more drinks. They finish work at 5am and are unlikely to go with you before or after work. More of these type of bars on TongRen Lu ; where a thai/pinoy disco called the Manhattan thrives much like our Orchard Towers.

My favorite was the underground bars of Julu Lu. They are really underground NOT illegal! There’s any bar here to meet your liking. There’s the quiet pools bar , the gay bar , the rock bar , the Chinese disco , the SUCBA bar , the Jap bar ; all with the similar Lady (or Guy at the gay bar!) Drink system. One thing I noticed was that all bars have a private area and it doesn’t take a genius to know what goes on there! It is easy to get carried away and blow a few thousand RMB here!

I think we missed a lot but we were there only 5 days and went to the Expo so didn’t have as much time to explore everything. Overall , I liked Shanghai and would visit again but next time would like to see more of the country sides of China. I would recommend Shanghai for people who like the city life.
