Sorry this may be a stupid and newb qn to ask but, what do u say when u go into the hotel81 and ask for a 2hr room? Isit called a transit? What are the words u use to also insist on the cheaper room and not get cheated?

just tell them that you need a room and they'll usually know it's for 2 hours. so far i've only been asked once on how long i'll need the room.

as for cheaper rooms, just tell them that you will wait till a room is available. unless you are at certain outlets where the cheapest is $30. lol

Spended extra time gone back to clarify with Changi81 liao. Manager said I must had left my key in the room and did not checkout. What a great reasoning. The Manager said will need to check and should be cleared of this outstanding.

BUT! even till now checking in other H81, frontdesk just stared at the monitor screen for sometime and then inform that I had outstanding payment at Changi81!!. What this means????

Newbie me will like to share my experience...

Whenever I goin for a "quick release of heatiness", at any H*tel 81, I go straight to counter and say "short time"... That's all... They will ask for ur IC, den register and ask u for payment, normally $20 in my case....

My virgin 1st time went H81 Fuji (at B*lestier), told counter I need a room and was asked to pay $30... I asked str8 away...

Me: "I tot $20 only??"
Recep: "1st timer there's a one time member charge of $10, subsequent visit to any H81 no need to pay for it cos "considered" member liao...

Until just 3 days ago, heard fr my fren's acquaintance u can dun pay the $10 but u gotta pay upfront deposit (refundable upon check out) whenever u book a H81 room... Dunno true anot cos I paid the $10 back then...

Check with seniors here, Fragrance employ similar tactics???

Went down to G L6 Fragrance, they employ similar tactics. Walk out straight away, go to nearby H81 and pay $20.

Both H80 and Fragrance use the same tactics.

Pity SG dont have a 3rd budget chain hotel, if the room space is between H81 and Fragrance (found F-hotel room too small) and price between 20-25, sure a good business and can knock out those $30 hotels

Guys should have noticed that Frangrance chain of hotels are listed on the stock exchange and the owner is worth close to 400million..

Hotel 81 is still Ptd Ltd, lol dunno how much they are really worth..

1. Interestingly, I find this mentality of most Singaporeans puzzling - why are they so afraid to clarify matters they feel so strongly about??

2. Its perfectly fine (in my humble opinion) for the above samster to clairfy with the hotel staff before paying, in a matter-of-factly and polite manner, the reason for the amount charged. Once he is totally satsified, he can then pay accordingly.

3. Let me relate to you my own experience with Hotel 81 at Joo Chiat Road.

a. When checking in, I was given the impression by the Hotel 81 staff that I will be charged extra $10 as a registration fee to enjoy the exemption of the $20 deposit. This one time payment will enable me to enjoy the same exemption at any of their Chain. What I find most unethical is the manner it was explained to me. The message conveyed was that such a $10 registration fee is part of their mandatory administration system.

b. The very minute I firmly clarified further about this so called mandatory requirement and why was I not given an option to decide for myself if I want to be exempted or not, u can immediately see the uncomfortable change in the staff. His facial expression and body vibes gave away his ruse.

c. He went on to explain that this is for my total benefit. I then told him that I appreciate his concern and I do not want to be registered as a member for whatever reasons.

d. Still, he was so adamant that he insisted that I must be registered as a member for my own benefit of enjoying further usage of the hotel.

e. All this way, I was calm, composed and firm in my dealing with him. When I demanded to see his Operation Manager regarding this issue, that staff immediately apologised for any discomfort and inconveniences caused.

f. He then sheepishly admitted to me that this registration fee for membership is not mandatory and is on a voluntary basis. All this time, the short queque that formed behind me applauded me and supported me for setting the record straight as they have been victims for such a ruse before.

4. Feedback from my friends told me that this registration system has not pro actively been offered now.

5. As a business entreprise, it is important that the hotel management remind its staff not to abuse their customer's trust and confidence. We will treat and respect them with grace and it is only right they take care not to take us for granted.
