Sporting Gijon 1 - 6 Barcelona : Barca register first Liga win in style

Barcelona secured their first league win of the season in style on Sunday as they thrashed newly promoted Sporting Gijon 6-1.

Goals from Xavi and Samuel Eto'o gave the Catalans a comfortable lead at half-time and an own goal from Jorge Garcia extended their advantage just short of the hour.

Francisco Maldonado pulled a goal back for the hosts a minute later but any chance of a Sporting revival disappeared when Gerard was shown the red card for holding back Lionel Messi in the area.

Barca made their numerical advantage count as Andres Iniesta netted a fourth after 70 minutes and Messi bagged a late brace to complete the humiliation.

Barcelona 3 - 2 Real Betis : Barca's second win in a row

Eidur Gudjohnsen's late strike gave Barcelona a 3-2 victory at home to Real Betis after the Catalans had thrown away a two-goal lead.

Samuel Eto'o put Barcelona in front after 17 minutes and the Cameroon striker doubled the hosts' advantage shortly afterwards.

But Betis improved after the break and pulled a lucky goal back through Luciano Monzon on the hour.

And the Andalusians stunned the Nou Camp with a shock equaliser eight minutes later, when Jose Mari took advantage of some poor Barcelona defending to level the scores.

Espanyol 1 - 2 Barcelona : Barca win Catalan derby with 2 late goals

Lionel Messi's stoppage-time penalty gave Barcelona a 2-1 win they barely deserved in the city's derby against Espanyol in the Primera Liga on Saturday night.

Ferran Corominas struck after 19 minutes to give Espanyol the lead after Victor Valdes had fumbled horribly and Barca struggled to find a way back into the game until Thierry Henry levelled somewhat fortuitously half an hour into the second period.

Espanyol played the whole of the second half with 10 men following the dismissal of Nene and looked to have held on for a point, but Samuel Eto'o won a penalty in the last minute of added time and Messi stepped up to coolly slot home the winner.

Barcelona 6 - 1 Atlético Madrid : Goal rush for Barcelona

Barcelona scored five times in the first 28 minutes on the way to thrashing Atletico Madrid 6-1 on an incredible night at the Nou Camp on Saturday.

Rafa Marquez, Samuel Eto'o and Lionel Messi put the locals three up inside eight minutes as the game got off to an explosive start.

Maxi Rodriguez pulled one back for Atletico five minutes later, but Eto'o restored Barca's three-goal advantage shortly afterwards and Eidur Gudjohnsen added a fifth for the home side short of the half-hour mark.

The second half was less intense, but Thierry Henry wrapped up a brilliant Barcelona win with his side's sixth after 73 minutes.
