Its great to know that you have been following this thread. Yes, i always prefer to give but giving has its limitations too. Don't give too much as you cannot possibly feed all of them. Many bros with vietnamese spouse tend to give too much initially, but after some time, want to cut down and make the vietnamese side unhappy. It will be good enuff to just give US$100 a month and with US Dollars falling each day, it makes life easier for us

Me also sending around $200 sing every month but by inter bank transaction which the exchange rate is getting lesser sing dollars for me, from $207 initial to $187 inclusive of Bank Charges, that is a $20 per month which is $240 per annum.

Anyone can tell me how to change my wife thinking from her family to her husband and son, otherwise there would be Hell to pay for me, I've paid for her Brother's Wedding, and Even months later, her Brother's Hospital for giving birth, her sister's son education for two years already, and lot & lots more things which my initial monthly send back was not only $200 per month but double, whereas at that point of time, she is not pregnant yet. So not so much commitment, but most important is I'm just earning not more than $2,000 per month at that time.

Though the monthly allowance is lesser, but i think i have given a lot already, but it is never enough, and very few months, confirm got something would happens. Then the money from my pocket would be gone, which i calculated in total for two years, if i'd save up, i think i can change my Honda Civic to a Old BMW without a loan at all.. Though now is earning much much more than before, but yet money is still not enough. 1 person income for dunno how many people's mouth.

So regret getting married so early, and my son is already 5 months old and I'm not even 28 yet.. So sad, still got a lot time things haven't really enjoy before..

This is one of the useful & informative threads which I frequently read in SBF, other than the HCM thread.

The following are just my pathetic 2 dongs worth, made even cheaper by the falling USD

This is one statement which I agree wholeheartedly and stand by it thru-out. I have met quite a number of bros whom tends to be quite extreme in trying to give a good impression at the beginning by giving huge sums of money and lots of expensive gifts, whether there's a special occasion or not.

This will not be an issue if you are filthy rich, which unfortunately most of us are not. The expectation of the other party is such that you will be able to increase or at least maintain the same level of generosity forever.

However the reality is such that the bros will only do this at the beginning to look good, than try to tone-down at the later stage due to pocket-pain but end-up making the other party & family unhappy. Whats the point of looking good at the beginning but looking bad at the end??

I always practised what I preached, I will only give her a fixed monthly sum for daily expenses plus school fees and gifts only on 2 occasions per year, which is her birthday & X'mas (somewhat special to me). I told her this right at the beginning so as not to give her any "surprises" later. If she love me for what I am and what I can give now (errr.... meaning slightly stingy ^_^ )than at least I know the danger of them having unrealistic expectations are lesser.

Again I stress this is just my own pathetic thought & practice, not everybody may agree with it.

Well said bro...My sentiments sexactly!!! How to lower their expectations towards us Stinkaporeans huh?

I also kena before...I couldn't decrease the stipulated amount to be given to my witch-MIL however hard I try, just because of a slip of the tongue by my BX. KNN the witch showed my BX black face for a few days...
