Best place to find money changers is along Ha Trung St near Hang Da market. All the locals go there.

Most budget hotels (3* & below are gal friendly) but check with the hotel just in case.

Departed from HANOI yesterday afternoon, but got "extorted" by 2 senior customs officers before they released my passport.
Vietnam only allows USD5000 of undeclared FX for departures out of Vietnam.
However, it slipped my mind and i had about USD6000 with me.
They were in USD, HKD, JPY, MYR, etc.
But the nightmare started when the 2 officers used arbitary rates to jack up my FX amounts to equivalent of USD7000. This brought the penalty into the higher range of 3 to 10 mil VND.
BUT when they imposed the penalty, they insisted that i pay USD instead n amount was USD750. I went on my knees , literally , to reduce to USD300.
After i paid, they refused to issue me official receipt and juz put the USD into their own pockets. Bravo indeed!!
I still managed to catch my plane.
Please be mindful.
My Vietnam client claims he is a powerful person in Hanoi. This episode serves as an opportunity for him to prove himself.....hmmm
Lesson learnt: need to pcc b4 heading to airport, if not lady luck will forsake me.
