Re: Hotels in Bangkok

Thanks to all bros for thier feedback.

Have decided to go with swissotel Le Concorde. As i will be on late flight so reaching hotel around 1 am, do you think i should book for the first night as well? Or just book second and third night and pay walk in rate for the first? Hopefully can pay maybe half rate or something.

If you are arriving at 1 a.m. better book and the for the previous day so that it will be ready when you arrive. Otherwise, it will be subject to availability. Swissotel Le Concorde (previously Merchant Court) quite a popular hotel and I won't take the chances if I were you. The hotel has a regular flow of tour groups and airline crews (Singapore Airlines, Korean Airlines, etc).

Ok. If there's a next time, gonna book a double room.
Thanks brothers for sharing your experiences. I should learn to be loud against those dumb hotel staff.
either it is bad times or bkk htls trying to make quick buck...but I noted that a few htls listed as gal-friendly on bkktoniite site imposed joiner fee also....though they are more lax abt it..for eg. I brought gals for 2 nites and only impose 1 nite.

also it does not work that booking double room via internet will waive joiner fee...they look at how many names was registered when U first check in...if you book double room but check in as 1 name, they count as single...and ask you to pursue any refund with the internet website you bought from

no such thing as half rate for most hotels (unless you do not mind staying at short time hotels like A-One which give short times of 3 hrs!)....always better to take care of 1st nite hotel so that you have place to go to when you touch down at airport...save your energy for babe hunting...

Yes. This is correct. The only thing that comes close is a "day rate" where you
can stay in the daytime only (for travellers in transit usually) If you check in at night, it is always one night's rate.

Thanks Hasa Sas, I think I will probably made use of thaivisitor's kindness
Stay in Regina last year for 6 days, very familiar with the surroundings. 1min
walk out fr hotel and can reach internet shop, I think only 25B per hour.
Can actually take a stroll down to Posidon in the evening, and 2 or 3am in
the morning can walk out, cross two main streets and can get lots of local
food too. Only problem is too far from Robinson.

yeah.. always book a double room.. however even double room you need to confirm that you wont be charge a joiner fee if you bring back a guest.. talk directly with hotel .. no need to be paiseh..

I confirmed this point with Beverly hotel before booking, nobody ask for ID or anything.. no one even say "Hi" to us when we bring girls back.

yes, that's correct. especially if your partner is local.. some hotels wou't charge you if your partner is foreigner (assuming she's your wife or gf) but once you bring in a local Thai gf, they charge you. One good example when you will be charged a joiner if your partner is Thai even you booked and register 2 persons when check in is

Classic PLace Hotel, near Siam Hotel along Soi Asoke. Avoid this hotel bros.. there are many good hotels who is friendly like Pallazo, Watana, Swissotel, Landmark, JW Marriott, Regent, Novetel SS, Pathunam, Manhattan, Asia ... lots more just do a search and nego with the hotel manager before booking thru your travel website. Get his name to quote as reference in case some idiot try to squeeze you ur $$

For my case I registered her name & mine when I checked 1st cos she was coming by a later flight from CR.

I guess if u tell the reception during check-in that u are expecting another guest later and that's why u book a double room, they have to accept it even if got no name.

Dun get what u really mean by "already tried that many times". If I paid for a double room, I expect the hotel to allow 2 persons to occupy that room. What time she joins me and incidentally, who ever she is, is none of their business. I dun need to report to them on that. I just need to let them know the other occupant has arrived.

Same here, one of my previous trip over there, i stayed at the Novotel Hotel. Upon check-in, i told the receiptionist that i expect one friend to join me later. But they said that they will need to charge me 900B extra. I reasoned with them that i had actually requested for a twin room. They said that even i had requested for a twin room, but i had only pay for a single over at Sin travel agency. That is why they have to charge. Maybe that's why we see different prices over here when we book for a Single or Twin sharing. Single usually cost more than twin by another 20% to 30% but for twin sharing we pay double. Maybe that is the reason. But I am not sure if we book the room direct over there.

Re: Hotels in Bangkok

Hi Bros,
I just got back from BKK and tried the President Solitaire at Suklumvit Soi 11. It is an all suite hotel and the room I got for THB 2800++ was a premier suite as follows:
1) Size about 75 sqm
2) Large bedroom + separate seating room with full kitchen facilities
3) Free broadband internet connection in all rooms. Decent speed but not fantastic. I understand they have wireless but I never try.
4) All rooms have 42" LG Plasma TVs with DVD players - fantastic.
5) Rooms come with full American breakfast for 1 and extra THB 200 for additional.
6) Hotel definitely girl friendly.
7) the rate I paid include free 3 pieces of laundry per day.

This is a very nice hotel for those who are willing to pay to stay at 5 star (actually quite decently priced for this standard). Also I like the location as it is walking distance to Nana BTS station (and all the entertainment around the area) and the subway station (sorry don't know the name) next to Asoke BTS station. Also in Soi 11 there are quite a number of bars and traditional massage places as well as restaurants and eating places.
