Re: Vietnam - HCM (Thread 3)
My 2nd trip to HCM.
Day 1, Took a taxi to my hotel at D5 signature boutique, taxi fare cost about 180K. Wow first impression when check in to the room, very beautiful and trendy. Thanks to Mifacafe recommendation. The room was pretty small but very comfortable. Not much on the room service menu as well. Only a few options for breakfast too. You find necessities close by, a mini mart, fast food, clothing, dine dining restaurants, etc. all in walking distance. The hotel have very friendly staff. Not all are conversant in English but keep it simple, they understand. If you need a tour around the city or some adventure, talk to the receptionist and they'll help you with the tour at an additional cost. I even requested for early check-in prior to arrival and it was arranged. Afternoon proceed to D5 An Dong market for lunch and shopping. This market is great for things like bags and t-shirts. It look more like pratunam wholesale market in bangkok, if u buy many piece there will be a discount. The only disadvantage is many of the shirt are for for small to medium size, if you are big size, it will not fit. I like it so much that i shop the whole afternoon. In the basement of an dong market, there is a market with many food stall. After shopping at An Dong market took a taxi to Cafe MIFA at 335 Hung Vuong D5 as recommended by Hurricane88. A very unique cafe with noisy disco like music and DJ. There are hot girls who will approach and chat with customer. 1 sexy girl approach me but not sure is too noisy or because she dont understand me, try talk to her in english but she dont seem to understand, after she walk away. Pay my iced-coffee about 50K after about 1 hour and leave the place. Eat my dinner at Pho hung at nguyen trai D5, quite near my hotel, it is still delicious. The soup damn nice. Thanks to Hoian recommendation.

Re: Vietnam - HCM (Thread 3)
Day 2 at HCM
Wake up early for to join a local tour to Cuchi tunnel. I would put this down as a must see for those visiting Ho Chi Minh. It gives a glimpse into Vietnam's history. Sign up for a tour and the guide will explain the different types of tunnels and traps that were used. You can also go down into some of these tunnels. It is a worthwhile experience. There is a shooting range where you can shoot using the different types of guns that were used in the Vietnam war. Evening came back and was so tired, previous day saw another restaurant near pho hung at nguyen trai, decide to try it. The restaurant name is Mi Quang My Son. The noodle look more like kuay teow and the sauce make it very tasty. First time try this food, very shiok. For bros around there should go try it, most vietnam noodle usually is soup based but this is abit like sauce based.

Re: Vietnam - HCM (Thread 3)
Day 3 in HCM,
Visit "Chua Vinh Nghiem" Pagoda in the morning. This temple, despite being reputedly the largest temple in HCM City, was pretty average to me as there weren't many statues and ornate decorations and such to see inside. There's really just the main building of the temple that people can go in by going up the steps from the ground. Inside, at the front are three big Buddha statues, and at the back is like a shrine for some monks but interestingly there's also a portrait of the Vietnamese general Vo Nguyen Giap who I'm sure is a very revered figure (even in death) in Vietnam along with HCM himself (but no portrait of HCM in this temple). Afternoon Visit Reunification Palace. The Palace is an impressive and wonderful, bright and modern building with fabulous floor to ceiling windows that take advantage of cross breezes to keep it manageably cool. Love the mud-century modern furnishings with a Vietnamese twist, too! Surprisingly open, it seems an unlikely place for heads of state to feel secure. The grounds are lovely, as well. At the rear of the palace are a few shaded outdoor cafes, a perfect respite to cool off after your tour of the palace. Relatively a little bit pricey but inexpensive by Singapore standards. The fresh watermelon smoothie was outstanding. Eat Dinner in Banh Cuon Hai Nam at 11A Cao Thang D3, Banh Cuon is their speciality here and is basically minced pork wrapped in paper-thin steamed noddle wrappers, peppered with fried shrimp and typically dunked in fish and chilli sauce, the dish is accompanied with gigantic portion of bean sprouts and shredded lettuce.

Re: Vietnam - HCM (Thread 3)
How much did you pay for your 2 star hotel?
There are some really cheap and nice 2 star hotel near ben thanh market and backpacker street. Today i just change and check in to another girlfriendly hotel, Giang Son Hotel at Pham ngu lao, I pay SGD$35 nett / night. Room is clean and nice. Location fantastic with many pub and street BBQ at night.

Re: Vietnam - HCM (Thread 3)
Vietjet check in counter a bit weird, first time encountered this. I was flying from HCMC to BKK. The check in staff asked me what am I doing in Thailand and did I have a air ticket out of BKK. I told her no ticket out and she refused to let me check in, mentioning I need a ticket out of BKK.
Took me sometime to reason with her, finally she discussed with her colleague and let me check in.
