So,can i safely said that i ,as a tourist can actually sign up for 3 indo sim card in each different Telco companies with my passport at their service center? If there are 10 telco companies,i can have 30 sim cards. Note,i dont plan to register any sim card via NIK/KTP + KK number (becos i dont have that).

The part where it amazed me is that when i lost my phone with a certain Indonesia telco company's sim card,i will be able to retrieve back the same sim card number again. Impressive!

...probably means that the policy of needing to register a sim card was meant to keep "things" in control,eg terrorist etc....but base on the look of it now,it has become rather redundant as their objective were not properly serve.

My solution from a shorter stay Batam tourist's perspective is still, step out of custom,walk to the nearest sim card seller, ask for a sim card without registration; test it out,pay and go.

Only 50k rupiah. My sim card problem solved,hehehe...no need waste time to go until their respective telco company's service center to buy workable ones.

...and if i am permanently staying in Batam,i might probably register those sim card/s with another person's particulars,but never with street vendors.

If someone lose his hp, and the no. Is not registered.
He can go to GraPARI to get back the same no. But he must be able to give 5 often called no. from that lost sim card, to proof that the sim card belong to him.

As Nono noticed, they recycle numbers. Therefore, if too long time passed, it is likely that the same number is now in use by someone else.
However, doing as you suggest just saves the hassle to take the passport to GraPARI, but it does not save the time wasted to go there. I don't need keeping the same number.

I think this is the last time I buy the second SIM card for the GSM phone. I am noticing that even the poorest girls working in Newton now have a phone with WhatsApp. I still did not use the GMS phone to keep contact with someone who does not have WhatsApp. I may need it if if I go hunting girls in Pasar, but for the moment I do not plan to do that

To be fair with Telkomsel, I am satisfied with their 4G. It may be not like in Singapore, but today I tested the transfer speed in 3 places (Formosa, Nagoya Hill, somewhere around) and at all times the download/upload speed was around 8-12 Mbit/s. Not bad, and better than the wifi of Formosa (max 2 Mbit/s)

I think GraPARI is still more convenient. By the way, I wasted one hour but all included, from the moment I asked the SIM card the first time to when I saw Internet access on.

Hotel hv passport info of foreigner. it's of no use as it need to reg. in PERSON.

Hotel don't asked for KK(Family Card) info. (Dont think any one would bring Kk out when travelling)

That why I said KK serve as an extra check. Something like credit card companies asked for your mother's maiden name.

You depict is easy, but it's not. I wish to do as you suggest, next time I come here.

I am reading HERE that SOME telcos do sell SIM cards that have a grace period without registration before blocking. What you suggest works ONLY with one such telco.

Telkomsel DOES NOT. Simpati SIM cards MUST be registered before using, even for first call. No grace period.

I went to a shop at Lucky Plaza and they sell only Simpati. So, no choice there. Even if I am keen to try another operator as you suggest, I must go to the appropriate shop to find it. With Simpati, I have no other choice then register it (at GraPARI unless I don't find a local KTP/KK).

Ok, you may argue "Why you want Simpati? Take another one". Correct, but it has to be investigated whether the coverage and performance of Telkomsel is the same as other operators. There could be a reason to prefer Simpati. So far, I have beeb very satisfied with the network performance of SImpati in Batam.
