Hi all bros,

Legally it is ok to give... (there will be records on your IDs)

But do it only once..., She will ask u again...and again...Until your records is so famous in ICA...

Normally viet girls will pay a fee to use someone's ID to extend.... ($200 - 500)

So I personally think "DONT GIVE"

By the way, I ask my regular viet girl "want to stay with me tonight?"

And she answer" May gio de em biet de em day som"
I dont understand fully ....something to do with time... please help

Work to start on modern medical zone in HCMC
==============================
A Vietnamese-Singaporean joint venture will start work in Ho Chi Minh City this Thursday on what it says will be one of the most technologically advanced medical zones in Southeast Asia.

The 37-hectare zone, located in Binh Tan District, will include a 1,750 bed hospital, a medical school, a laboratory, a research center and an office building, a retail center for medical devices, a 36-floor residential building for medical experts and a 25-floor building for relatives of patients.

In addition, the zone will include a health club, a three-star hotel, a conference center, a park and an international primary school.

The first stage of the project, worth a total investment of US$400 million excluding medical equipment, will come online in 2011, according to project investors Hoa Lam Services Co. and Singapore-based Shangri-La Health Care Investment Pte. Ltd.

Vietnamese Embassy ponders stance on matchmaking uproar
=======================================

A representative of the Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore has told Thanh Nien the embassy “is contemplating appropriate actions” in light of a recent newspaper article about a Vietnamese bride matchmaking service.

“We must look at the issue from multiple perspectives to respond in a correct way,” said Bui Tan Long, the first secretary in charge of community affairs at the embassy.

In its October 24th edition, the Singapore’s newspaper Straits Times ran an article about Vietnam Brides International Matchmaker Company charging half-price for Singaporean men seeking Vietnamese spouses.

The story with the headline “Vietnam brides: Agency slashes fees” has sparked criticisms from readers as well as Ton Nu Thi Ninh, the former deputy head of the National Assembly Foreign Affairs Committee.

Readers say by stressing the price cut in the headline, the article was – whether inadvertently or not – advertising for overseas matchmaking services, which some view as another form of human trafficking.

Ninh, also a former Vietnamese Ambassador to the EU, suggests the Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore should at least request the host country to use appropriate authority to remove “Vietnam Brides” from the company’s name as it is an insult to Vietnam.

However, Long said the name can potentially be justified as it describes the function of the company.

For instance, he said, it is acceptable for an export/import service company from Thailand that does business with only Vietnam to use the name ‘Viet Thai’ to promote its brand. “In this case, this company… [is only describing] its matchmaking services with Vietnamese women.”

But Long also said the embassy may follow Ninh’s suggestion or even take a stronger response after careful deliberations.

Story on Vietnamese bride service draws criticism
================================

A Straits Times story on a Vietnamese bride service in Singapore has drawn criticism from a Vietnamese diplomat and international journalists for treating the issue with indifference and even encouraging the practice.

An October 24 Straits Times article with the headline “Vietnam brides: Agency slashes fees” reported that the Vietnam Brides International Matchmaker company was charging half-price for Singaporean men seeking Vietnamese spouses, attributing the discount to the global financial crisis.

According to the story, Mark Lin of Vietnam Brides International Matchmaker was charging SG$4,000 to fix up potential Singaporean husbands with potential Vietnamese brides.

Three Vietnamese women had been hanging around at the agency for weeks waiting for husbands, the article said. “Business has never been so bad - not even during the SARS outbreak in 2003,” the article quoted Lin as saying.

Many readers say that by not criticizing the practice of overseas matchmaking, which many see as akin to human trafficking, the article had in fact condoned it.

Many have said that by using the price cut as the headline, the article was serving as advertising for the business.

A journalist from a leading international news agency recently wrote to Thanh Nien: “It's horrible to see them [Vietnamese would-be brides] ‘discounted’ like they are a sack of rice or a pair of shoes.”

“Unfortunately, money talks loudly and overrides social and moral considerations. Since I really love the Vietnamese people, it hurt me to see the article,” the journalist said.

“I felt bad for the women they featured. I guess there must be mixed feelings in Vietnam about this issue, on one hand, I would like to think that some of the ladies find love and a better life in Singapore, but I know Vietnamese are a very proud culture (and have many good reasons to be proud).”

Speaking with a Thanh Nien correspondent on a recent Singapore trip, former deputy head of the parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee Ton Nu Thi Ninh said she was stunned to see such a respected newspaper running a very insensitive story on a very sensitive topic.

Ninh said that even though transnational marriage brokerage services between Singaporean men and foreign women were legal in Singapore, she said the practice “sold” women into marriage.

In Vietnam, individuals and organizations are forbidden to carry out marriage brokerages.

Though only non-profit women’s associations can establish marriage support centers and marriage consultation services, the Vietnamese Ministry of Justice has recommended that the government legalize marriage brokering so central authorities could oversee and control the matchmaking.

Ninh said the article had simply cashed in on gullible women, especially the three mentioned in the article, who were all pictured without their faces blurred.

Such articles in Vietnam always blur the women’s faces.

The Straits Times’ reporter Theresa Tan, who wrote the article, said in an email to Thanh Nien that she did indeed consider the fact that Singaporean men pay a marriage broker to find Vietnamese brides a social problem.

“That's why we report on such issues,” she said.

She said the paper was under no obligation to change the names or blur the faces of the girls involved as they had all agreed to the article.

The Vietnamese government is now considering proposals to clamp down on illegal marriage brokering after several high-profile cases this year and last.

Authorities are also considering revising Vietnam’s laws on marrying foreigners.

The Straits Times is a Singapore-based daily newspaper.

Vietnamese coffee needs a brand new perception
===============================
To many people, including expatriates, Vietnamese coffee tastes the best. But ask someone outside the country about Vietnamese coffee and you will receive a shrug. Give me a brand name, she or he are likely to ask.

So there’s the moment of truth. Few local coffee brands are known outside the country, although Vietnam is known as a major exporter of coffee beans.

Some good news came last week. Trung Nguyen, a famous Vietnamese coffee brand, has just added another outlet in Singapore. Its second coffee shop is located in the famous Liang Court shopping mall. The first shop, by the way, is in the Changi Airport.
Founder and General Director of Trung Nguyen, Dang Le Nguyen Vu, says the firm plans to open two more shops in Singapore in next year’s first quarter, one in the Marina Square shopping mall and the other at Changi Airport’s second terminal. The long term plan? Eighteen shops in the lion city, Vu says.

Given the low quality profile of Vietnam’s processed coffee products, Vu’s plan may sound far-fetched. But he believes Vietnamese coffee has its “unique quality and characteristics” that outshines some other famous international brands, thanks partly to the mineral-rich basalt soil of the Central Highlands, the nation’s premier coffee growing region.

He may be right. The new Trung Nguyen outlet has attracted many shoppers even though it officially opened only on Wednesday.

But Trung Nguyen alone is not enough to change the perception of Vietnam as just an exporter of raw coffee beans.

“Very few domestically processed coffee products are exported,” says Luong Van Tu, chairman of Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (VICOFA).

In fact, Vietnam imports coffee products – US$7.3 million worth of it in the first eight months, according to the General Customs Office.

There is plenty of evidence that the reliance on coffee bean exports has made Vietnamese farmers and traders very vulnerable to world price fluctuations.

The plans seem to be in place. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has said processed coffee production should go up to 15,000 tons a year by 2015, about half of which will be exported.

For this to happen, the local coffee industry must focus on improving its processing capacity and bring more variety to its coffee products. And lest we forget, work toward creating a few recognized brands.
