Man jailed for taking upskirt videos of over 60 women

34 year-old Nantha Kumar Palakrishnan thought that his peeping habits were untraceable.

But the part-time tutor was finally jailed for 5 months today after being caught for taking upskirt videos of nearly 60 women in Singapore between July and August 2013 at places such as NTUC Fairprice outlets or Popular book store near MRT stations.

When out on the prowl, he would first set his iPhone 4, with the camera facing up, in his laptop bag with his camera on recording mode. After that, he would place the bag on the floor behind or near unsuspecting women, hoping to catch a glimpse under their skirts.

He was finally caught on 26th August 2013 when a male colleague of a 34 year-old woman noticed Nantha placing the bag behind his colleague and adjusting it. The colleague grabbed the bag, demanded to know what was inside and found the iPhone in recording mode.

Police later raided Nantha's house in Yishun a laptop full of pornography and numerous upskirt videos of local women.

Nantha was initially charged with 59 counts of insulting the modesty of the women he filmed, but only 8 of the charges were proceeded with. For each charge, Nantha could have faced up to a year of jail, a fine, or both.
