Chitchat Medical Caution for Singaporeans - Check the doctors' qualification
An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:
Following the Death of Franklin Heng from a liposuction procedure, the first such death in 2009 and the coroner's inquiry in 2011, a number of shocking facts came to light. Wrong drug was used as sedative, doctors involved not qualified, 12 punctures of intestines and organ, one was a local grad and the other qualified from Myanmar. Now we have another case where SGH terminated a doctor from Myanmar in 2014. The we have a case of Prof Prof Jiade Jay Lu of NUH whose licences was revoked by the US authorities. 1. It best to check the qualification of the doctor and where they were qualified from SMC website here - https://prs.moh.gov.sg/prs/internet/...action?hpe=SMC 2. As the SMC is not doing their work, mere registration is not sufficient. After you key in the name, go to details for place of qualification. 3. If you are involved in a procedure especially surgery, you have the right to find out the name of all doctors who will be involved. This is important as foreigners like to use a local trained doctor as the front as in the case of Franklin Heng. The doctor who was supposed to monitor his vital signs qualified in Myanmar and the Nurse if from PRC. 4. Also check with your family on the procedure that you are undertaking or bring along a relative to be sure. May be useful to check with your regular neighbourhood clinic doctor or your family GP. 5. The list of countries and institutions whose qualifications are recognised for registration is here http://www.healthprofessionals.gov.s...ifications.pdf Click here to view the whole thread at www.sammyboy.com. |
