Serious Ft propery agent jailed for trying to grab policeman's gun

An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

Singapore permanent resident Han Jing, 38, was jailed for 11 months and 12 weeks in lieu of caning for trying to grab a police officer's loaded gun after a minor traffic accident.

The offence took place at the junction of Soo Chow Drive and Soo Chow Garden Road in the Thomson area at about 1.25AM on 22 January 2016.

2 police officers responded to an accident at the scene, where a report had been lodged about a black Mini Cooper that had crashed into a signpost. The driver was nowhere to be seen when they arrived.

Eye witnesses led the officers to Han Jing, who was found at a nearby bus stop. When they told her to follow them back to the accident site, she did. However, when she was told to wait at the site, she started to walk away.

As officers tried to persuade her to return to the scene, she suddenly lunged at one of the officer's and grabbed the butt of his gun, which was loaded but secured to his holster. Han tried repeatedly to pull the revolver upwards several times while the officer held onto his gun firmly.

Han Jing continued, getting increasingly persistent and forceful. The officer's colleague grabbed her left elbow and pulled her away to break her grip on the butt of the revolver.

She was handcuffed and placed under arrest.

A psychiatrist from the Institute of Mental Health says that Han Jing was suffering from acute stress reaction.

However, this is not Han Jing's first offence. She had previous thrown a flower pot, a small table and a clothes rack from the 30th floor of a condominium at St Thomas Walk last September.

The prosecution had argued for a stronger deterrent sentence in light of her attempt to seize a lethal weapon, her reprehensible conduct and her lack of remorse.

District Judge Wong Li Tein backdated her sentence to Sept 6 last year. She will be released by the end of the year.
